Informatics Valenzuela Digital Cartoon Making Contest Gala Film Showing
03/07/08

Informatics Valenzuela has organized the first ever Cartoon Making / Digital Animation contest in Valenzuela City. The Gala Film Showing was held on March 6, 2008 at the Valenzuela City Center for the Performing Arts (formerly the Valenzuela Auditorium). The event was attended by hundreds of people excited to watch cartoon pieces created by high school students from public and private high schools in Valenzuela.

The actual competition started around 1 1/2 months before when 3 students from each high school went to Informatics to undergo free Macromedia Flash animation training. They were then given more than one month to prepare their animation pieces for the gala film showing. The result was a mixture of different styles, with each school lending a unique flavor to the event.

Judges from the Animation Council of the Philippines as well as Informatics Valenzuela professors were on hand to carfully critique and rank all the cartoon pieces. Although one winner emerged at the end, all partcipants considered themselves winners in that they were able to overcome all sorts of difficulties to produce their work.

Guests from the government and civil society were also on hand in witnessing this historic event. The OIC of the Youth, Sports, and Livelihood Development Office of Valenzuela, Lorena Natividad Borja, represented the honorable Mayor Sherwin T. Gatchalian in delivering an inspiring message to all the young people watching. Dr. Leilanie Mendoza, representing the superintendent for the Division of City Schools (DepEd) Valenzuela Dr. Joel T. San Luis, talked about the support the Department of Education is giving to activities that would bring out the best in students. Representatives from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela also attended including the President Dr. Nedeņa Torralba and the Vice President Erlindo Dionisio.
